Pod & Pew

While ordering my new little friend (below) online tonight I received an unknown number call from New York City. This always makes me giddy.

This time it was the non partisan think tank, Pew Research Center, offering $20 for my opinions on a variety of topics like race, politics, religion, jobs, education, etc. At the beginning they asked a series of questions in order to categorize my data based on ethnicity. I quickly surmised they were targeting people of Asian heritage so I quickly highlighted my Chinese ancestry. Soon thereafter it was rapid fire questioning to make the Spanish Inquisition seem like child's play.

Do you think the country will be worse off in 30 years? Which country will be the world's super power in 30 years? What countries do your parents come from? Do you send money to either of those home countries? Do you meditate? How many times a day do you pray? Do you have a sacred temple or shrine in your home? Do you believe in a heaven? Do you believe in a hell where people will be punished for the things they do wrong? Do you believe in reincarnation? Do you celebrate the lunar new year? Have you ever been discriminated against because of your heritage? Would you be concerned if your child married someone of another Asian descent? How do you think racial relations is between Chinese and blacks? Do you think parental involvement in education is important? Do you think parental involvement in selecting a mate is important? Have you ever solved neighborhood problems with members of your community? Do you believe immigrants are hard-working and add to the country or people who take American jobs?

And so on and so forth, but it was still kinda fun. Representin' for my Chinese people, yo.
